Back on the Hill
Hello,First posts are always hard so lets see what I can come up with. How about an introduction. My name is Sean I was born in New Hampshire but moved to Western New York when I was three. Apparently I can't get enough of it so I went to a college in Western New York. I am from a small town, Avon, NY that makes Cool Whip. I became interested in Engineering through the Project Lead the Way program that was at my high school. It was a five course pre-engineering sequence that exposed me to Engineering. I especially liked the design courses I took and came to Cornell hoping to be a Mechanical Engineer.
Since I have been at Cornell My plan to be a mechanical engineer has not changed. I am around 20 or so credits away from graduating, a little scary. The first thing I did when i got to Cornell was to join the cycling club. It is awesome, http://www.cornellcycling.org/cucycle/ With the club I have been able to race in the fall mountain season and the spring road season all over the northeast in the ECCC, http://collegiatecycling.org/eccc/ . The club also does fun rides, track racing, and cyclocross racing. But enough of trying to get you to join it. I have also gone skiing with the ski club here at the local hill, Greek Peak. And for the last two semesters I was on the Chem-E (chemical engineering) car-team. We had to build a car the size of a shoe box that was powered and stopped by chemical reactions. We went to the national competition in the fall and ended up winning. This gave us an invitation to the world competition this August.
I have left the car team because I have added a new time commitment, research. This summer I will be conducting research with Professor Ruina of T.A.M. on bicycles, as well as working in the admissions office, where I have worked since October 2006.
This is my first summer in Ithaca and I am looking forward to it. The summers are great around here and there is always something to do. I will be posting on this blog weekly, so check back soon. Also, if you have any questions that you want a student to answer honestly, just let me know.
Have a good one,
Sean
